FAQs About Stamped Concrete Projects

Stamped concrete has become one of the most popular choices for patios, walkways and driveways—and for good reason. It offers the durability of concrete with the upscale look of natural stone, brick, or wood. At GMS Concrete & Hardscapes LLC, we’ve answered just about every question you can imagine from clients across New England and Spring, Texas. Here are the most common FAQs—answered by our pros.

What is stamped concrete?

Stamped concrete is regular concrete that is patterned and/or textured to resemble other materials like stone, slate, brick, or even wood. During installation, we use specialized stamps and color treatments to achieve the desired look.

How long does stamped concrete last?

When installed properly and maintained, stamped concrete can last 25+ years. Our projects are built to handle harsh New England winters and intense Texas sun. We use high-quality sealers and reinforcement methods to maximize lifespan.

Will the color fade over time?

Stamped concrete is colored using integral pigments and surface color hardeners. While some fading may occur naturally over the years, regular resealing every 2–3 years will preserve color vibrancy and protect against wear, UV rays, and stains.

Is it slippery when wet?

Stamped concrete can be slippery if not treated correctly. That’s why we always offer anti-slip additives in our sealer to increase traction—especially important around pool decks or high-traffic areas.

How much does stamped concrete cost?

Prices vary based on size, design complexity, and location. On average, stamped concrete is more affordable than natural stone or pavers while offering similar aesthetics. We’re happy to provide free estimates for your project.

Can it crack?

All concrete has the potential to crack, but we take preventive steps to minimize this, including:

  • Installing proper base materials
  • Using control joints
  • Reinforcing with wire mesh or rebar
  • Applying high-quality sealers

Most minor cracks are cosmetic and don’t affect the performance or longevity of the surface.

How do I maintain it?

Stamped concrete is easy to maintain:

  • Sweep or rinse regularly
  • Reseal every 2–3 years
  • Avoid harsh de-icing salts in winter (especially in New England)
  • Clean spills quickly to prevent staining

We also offer maintenance services to keep your hardscape looking like new.

Can I choose the color and pattern?

Absolutely! We offer a wide variety of patterns, textures, and color combinations. Whether you're looking for rustic stone, sleek slate, or warm woodgrain finishes, we help you design a look that complements your home and landscape.

How long does installation take?

Most projects vary depending on size and weather conditions. We handle everything from excavation to finishing—and always keep you updated along the way.
